Western Front is thrilled to introduce two new members to our Board of Directors — Sol Hashemi and Emma Lindquist. Both join our board following an open call process in late 2023, and will commence their duties in August, 2024. We look forward to the diverse experience and leadership they will bring to the governance of Western Front. We welcome you to learn more about our new board members below.

Sol Hashemi

Sol Hashemi is an artist who explores how the photographic process can molt into a photograph of process. Past projects include a vibration reducing sculpture for the 9th Berlin Biennale, the release of a 4-pack of psychotropic beer as an expanded photo book with Artspeak (Vancouver, BC), and artworks that were part of the thermal loop of a water-cooled PC at SculptureCenter (Long Island City, NY). Selected solo exhibitions include Western Front (Vancouver, BC); NADA Miami with ILY2; Veronica (Seattle); Henry Art Gallery (Seattle); James Harris Gallery (Seattle); and Annarumma Gallery (Naples). Hashemi received his MFA from UBC (2021) and was a co-founder of Veronica. He is a recipient of the Kayla Skinner Award from the Seattle Art Museum.

Emma Lindquist

Emma Lindquist is currently pursuing a Master of Architecture at the UBC School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. During her studies she is merging her ongoing investigations into reflective materials and dynamics of light with building forms. Prior to shifting into the design industry, Emma spent over 10 years in the finance and insurance sector where she led global financial institutions and governments to achieve strategic, financial, and policy goals. She worked at KPMG, Definity Insurance, and the Ontario Ministry of Finance. She is passionate about sharing financial skills with artists and designers. Emma holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science and Economics from the University of Toronto and briefly studied Spatial Design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
