Western Front is thrilled to introduce three new members to our Board of Directors — Peter Bussigel, Khorshid Naderi-Azad, and Annabel Vaughan. All join our board following an open call in late 2024, and will commence their duties in March, 2025. We look forward to the diverse experience and leadership they will bring to the governance of Western Front. We welcome you to learn more about our new board members below.
Peter Bussigel is a media artist working with sound, video, and performance. His creative work and research focus on how new technologies shape and shift how we communicate, and specifically, how we listen. His projects include musical instruments, interactive installations, experimental videos, and concert games, and his work has been featured at NIME, ISEA, ICMC, SEAMUS, Moogfest, and various electronic music and media art festivals. Peter is an associate professor in the New Media + Sound Art program at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. He lives and works on the traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəyəm (Musqueam), Sḵwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and sƏl̓ílwƏtaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations (Vancouver, Canada).
Khorshid Naderi-Azad is an architect and academic. She serves as an adjunct professor in the School of Architecture + Landscape Architecture at the University of British Columbia and has worked at prominent architecture firms in Los Angeles, New York, Rotterdam, Boston, and Vancouver. She holds a master of architecture with distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a bachelor of science in architecture from McGill University. Her work is centred on spectacle, contemporary culture, and anexact forms. Khorshid is the co-founder of WallyWool, a legacy company reimagined through the principles of “total design.” WallyWool originated from the historic department store Woodward’s, and today offers architectural design as well as a wide range of bespoke soft furnishings, including drapery, blinds, sofas, and beds. The company’s predominantly female, immigrant team crafts each piece locally in a 10,000-square-foot factory and showroom in Richmond.
Annabel Vaughan, OAA is an architect at People Design Co-op and collaborates with ERA Architects, both in Toronto. She recently returned to work and live on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəjˀəm, Sḵwxwú7mesh, and səlilw̓ətaɁɬ Nations (Vancouver, Canada). Her professional work includes heritage conservation, non-profit housing, civic and residential building design, small-scale landscape installations, urban design and research, performance art lectures, and curatorial projects. She writes, teaches, and participates regularly in discussions concerning the role that architecture and public art can play as agents of political change in the city.
