Jun 1, 2024

Western Front is pleased to be a partner for the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, hosted by Coastal Jazz.

From June 24 - 27, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. daily, Western Front will be a hub for free talks between festival artists and members of the Vancouver music community. This talk series will support audiences to learn about the creative processes of artists, including Shahzad Ismaily; Peter Knight, Daniel Wilfred, and David Wilfred of Hand to Earth; DJ O Show; and Sakina Abdou.

Alongside this, a new week-long educational initiative titled The New Improvisers Studio will support young musicians aged 17 to 24 to explore musical improvisation through the mentorship of acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily, and invited guests Sakina Abdou, Matthew Ariaratnam, Meredith Bates, Claire Devlin, Aviva Endean, Mili Hong, Sunny Kim, and Peggy Lee. An open rehearsal will be presented to the public on June 28, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m..
