Western Front is embarking on an exciting development in the management and preservation of its iconic heritage building at 303 E 8th Avenue, Vancouver. Across March and April, 2024, we will undertake a renovation project to replace all of the windows on the south and west façade, to repair the siding, and replenish the exterior paint work. This work is being completed to ensure the ongoing integrity of our building’s envelope, and will support us to implement solutions to make our facilities more energy-efficient. On this project, we are pleased to work with Schema – Office for Architecture and Terris & Company General Contractors Ltd, and are grateful for the funding support of the Province of British Columbia and Heritage BC through the Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program (CERIP) and Community Gaming Capital Project Grants.
This renovation will impact programming on the second floor of our building, with Western Front suspending all public activities in the Grand Luxe Hall, Archives, and our Artist Residency Suite across March and April to ensure the safety of our visitors and to provide our staff with the time to manage this project effectively. Tenant organisation EDAM will also offer reduced programming in their ground floor dance studio, with details about their calendar of activities available at edamdance.org.
Our current exhibition by Dani and Sheilah ReStack, Feral Domestic, will remain open to the public in our ground floor gallery space until April 6, 2024. We also look forward to offering some online programs and other events on our ground floor during this period.
If you would like to support our ongoing work maintaining and upgrading our facilities, we welcome donations of all sizes. All donations will receive a charitable tax receipt. Make your gift here.
