Western Front is pleased to present Immortal Coil, a new installation by artists-in-residence Flavourcel Animation Collective.

To conclude their residency at Western Front, Flavourcel has created a maze of animation works and installations in Western Front’s Grand Luxe Hall. Over the past five months, Flavourcel has occupied the Grand Luxe Hall as their first collective studio space. Immortal Coil responds to their experience of working together in a shared space and is inspired by the nature of Western Front’s unique building.

About the Artists

Flavourcel is an animation collective formed in 2018 by ten artists based on the unceded, traditional, and ancestral xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) territories, also known as Vancouver. They work collaboratively to make short-form experimental animations such as GIFs, music videos, installations, and more, to extend the contemporary narrative of what animation is and what it can be. Collective decision-making, resource sharing, and a commitment to play is at the core of all that they do. Through this, Flavourcel aims to uplift its members, as well as the communities it belongs to.

Flavourcel’s members are Alia Hijaab, Chhaya Naran, Chris Strickler, gil goletski, Harlo Martens, Josh Neu, Julia Song, Kat G Morris, Lana Connors, and Laurel Pucker.

Western Front is a non-profit
artist-run centre in Vancouver.

We acknowledge the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations as traditional owners of the land upon which Western Front stands.
