Karen Nelson

Bio:

Karen Nelson is a dancer and performer based in Washington, United States who has been practicing Contact Improvisation since 1977. Her work rests within dance improvisation and Buddhist study and practice, and integrates the influence of Material for the Spine and Tuning Scores. Practicing a physical-sensation based approach to dance, she is interested in investigating dominant cultural narratives and revers(ion)ing these fictions within her own embodiment and wider community. Nelson is a contributing author to Dancing with Dharma and Contact Quarterly, and is the co-founder of Dance Ability and Diverse Dance Research Retreat.
