Pak Cokro was a highly esteemed composer, performer, and teacher of Central Javanese gamelan music. He was also known by his honorary title, Kanjeng Raden Tumenggung (K.R.T.) Wasitodiningrat, the highest rank title for a musician in the Pakualaman Palace court for distinguished accomplishments and lengthy service. His works are respected as important models of Javanese and gamelan music. Cokro travelled and lived internationally, and was a crucial force in establishing the interest and study of Javanese gamelan performance outside of Indonesia, especially in North America.
