J. Michael Yates was an experimental poet, translator, essayist, dramatist, editor, and fiction writer born in Fulton, United States and largely based in Vancouver, Canada. His work was greatly influenced by his excursions “in the bush” of the Coast Mountain Corridor, as well as his career as a prison guard. Yates taught in the Department of Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia, was the founder of the literary houses Sono Nis Press and Ronsdale Press, and founding editorial director of Cacanadadada Press.
