Western Front and The Capilano Review are pleased to invite you to the third event in our new monthly reading series, Dear Friends &. Please join us for an evening of poetry by D.M. Bradford, Danielle LaFrance, and Jane Shi.

Darby Minott Bradford is a poet and translator based in Tio’tia:ke (Montréal). He is the author of Dream of No One but Myself (Brick Books, 2021), which won the A.M. Klein Prize for Poetry and was a finalist for the Griffin Poetry Prize and Governor General’s Literary Awards. Bottom Rail on Top, their second book, will be published on September 1, 2023.
Danielle LaFrance is a writer of the poetry-research-theory books #postdildo (Talonbooks, 2022), JUST LIKE I LIKE IT (Talonbooks, 2019), Friendly + Fire (Talonbooks, 2016), and species branding (Capilano University Editions, 2010). Other poetry and critical writing have appeared in such magazines and journals as ASAP/Journal, The Capilano Review, LESTE, Tripwire, and Organism for Poetic Research. The intertextual sound project Yes, Sydo (with Josh Rose) has recently commenced with a reading + listening group, which invites all to collectively critique the cultural significance of Homer’s Odyssey as it is intervened by other texts and sounds and presently unfolding contexts.
Jane Shi lives on the occupied territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. She is the author of the chapbook Leaving Chang’e on Read (Rahila’s Ghost, 2022). Her debut poetry collection, echolalia echolalia, comes out fall 2024 with Brick Books.
The Grand Luxe Hall is located on the second floor of Western Front, which is accessed by a flight of 26 stairs. While plans for a full building upgrade to facilitate access for wheelchair and scooter users are still underway, events in the Grand Luxe Hall are made available virtually via high-quality livestream (see link above).
