As part of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, join us for an open rehearsal with members of The New Improvisers Studio. This performance marks the conclusion of the week-long educational initiative for emerging musicians presented by Western Front and Coastal Jazz.

The New Improvisers Studio supports collective explorations in musical improvisation through the mentorship of a world leading improviser and invited guests from the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. This year the Studio was led by the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily, with invited guests Sakina Abdou, Matthew Ariaratnam, Meredith Bates, Claire Devlin, Aviva Endean, Mili Hong, Sunny Kim, and Peggy Lee.

The Grand Luxe Hall is located on the second floor of Western Front, which is accessed by a flight of 26 stairs. Further details about accessibility at Western Front can be found here.

Presented in partnership with Coastal Jazz, with the support of the Deux Mille Foundation, the Dr. Hari Sharma Foundation, the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation at the University of British Columbia, the Government of Canada, and SOCAN Foundation.

Western Front is a non-profit
artist-run centre in Vancouver.
