Sanja Iveković is an artist based in Zagreb, Croatia who works across video, performance, photography, sculpture, and installation. Her practice focuses on gender, identity, and memory, and she is recognized as one of the first artists in former Yugoslavia to adopt a feminist standpoint in her work. Using her own life and subject position as a point of departure, her work explores the influence of mass media and capitalism on the commodification of women’s roles in post-communist society.
