Amelia Butcher is an artist based in Vancouver, Canada. She has a making, teaching, writing, and kiln-firing practice that is centred in clay but preoccupied with language and narrative. She looks for connections and makes narrative vessels where observations and concerns about natural history, questions about fiction, perception, storytelling, and character become crystallized into a human-scale artifact. In her practice, pots act as objects intended for a certain purpose, straddling public and private, entering an intimate space with the user. Butcher’s works become talismans for needs being met, connection, and communication.
