Location:

Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

Description:

The Western Front New Musica ensemble celebrated the appearance of John Cage in Vancouver by performing Cage’s compositions "Radio Music" (1956), "The Perilous Night" (1944), and "Telephones and Birds" (1977); as well as "Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet" (1971) by Gavin Bryars, and works by Rudolf Komorous and Christopher Fox.

The concert was presented to coincide with Cage’s performances in Vancouver on March 27 and 28 with the Vancouver New Music Society.

A group of thirteen musicians with various string, percussion, and woodwind instruments sit in front of music stands in the Grand Luxe Hall. The photo is in black and white.
Two people sit side by side at a table covered with music equipment and cables, focused on their respective tasks. One person in a white dress shirt gazes down while writing on a piece of paper. The other person is turning a knob on a synth.
A performer wearing a plaid shirt and glasses is seen from behind as they place a vinyl on a turntable. Next to them, another performer sits in front of a synthesizer with a keyboard. Audience members stand in front of the performers with their arms crossed, but their heads are cropped out of the image.
