Description:
That ’70s Ho: A Celebration of Women and Performance Circa 1970 concluded with a cabaret featuring live performances and screenings. Victoria Singh was the “mistress of ceremonies.”
The evening began with a screening of an interview with Linda Montano and Annie Sprinkle recorded in bed earlier in the week. Jean Smith performed The Skirt, a vocal performance with repetitive actions involving her skirt and red paint. Theo Jean Cuthand and Lynx Hell performed a doctor and patient roleplay, exploring dynamics of power and vulnerability. Karilynn Ming Ho performed a bloody tribute to Marina Abramović’s Rhythm 10 (1973). Devon Guest and Aluna-Maya performed a piece of reciprocal embraces and vocalizations. Video documentation was screened of Cindy Baker’s and Cheli Nighttraveller’s performances earlier in the week. Maya Suess and guests performed a skit inspired by the famous 1980 Playboy interviews with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Leanne Johnson performed an interactive spoken piece where the audience was cued to read aloud from provided cards. Katheryn Petersen (as Salmon Avalanche) performed Blue Suitcase alongside a video projection. The final act was a burlesque performance of “The Lady is a Tramp” by Kai Ling Xue accompanied by a vocalist and pianist. The song’s lyrics were changed to “The Lady is a Champ” as a feminist revision.
Video documentation is available upon request.
