Remix and Feedback Roundtable

Jan 10, 2004
Field:

Talk

Location:

Emily Carr Institute of Art, Vancouver

Time:

2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Description:

In conjunction with the exhibition, I am the Remix, a roundtable discussion was held to further explore themes of the show.

Paul Miller (a.k.a. DJ Spooky) spoke about the differentiation between his personal and DJ persona and played audio recordings and musical tracks to demonstrate how the remix can affect the process of familiar to unfamiliar on collective consciousness.

Juan Capistran and Mario Ybarra Jr. of the collective Slanguage, spoke about their interventionist approach, using the noise, built environment, and visual and material culture of Los Angeles as a starting point for their work.

The roundtable included Brady Cranfield and Randy Lee Cutler as moderators, and took place at Emily Carr Institute of Art (now Emily Carr University of Art + Design).

Video documentation available upon request.
