Description:

In Why Banana?, Anna Banana reflects on the persona she’s cultivated over ten years. Through this performance, she considers her adopted name, which often prompts others to question her choices while neglecting the oddities in their own lives and the world around them. The work presents a montage of unquestioned, contemporary lifestyles to challenge viewers' perceptions of what is truly absurd.
In black and white, Anna Banana is seen walking down the aisle of an audience, smoking a faux cigarette and holding a shopping basket in the crook of her arm, gazing ahead. Her hair rests in a light coloured bob, and she wears a light coloured short-sleeved button down, tucked into high-waisted dark pants. The image is double exposed, you can see Anna again to the right, from a further point of view.
