Description:

Initiated by Hungarian filmmakers Gábor Bódy and Verushka Bódy, Infermental was an international videocassette magazine that published video works and trailers. The concept of a magazine on videotape was originally inspired by the experience of sending tapes through the mail to get past the Iron Curtain in order to facilitate communication about art.

Appearing annually with a total running time between four and six hours, each issue of Infermental was compiled and edited in a different city. The project involved ten issues, based in Berlin and Hamburg, Germany; Budapest, Hungary; Lyon, France; Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Vancouver, Canada; Buffalo, US; Tokyo, Japan; Wien, Austria; and Osnabrück, Germany / Skopje, North Macedonia.

Western Front presented a screening of Infermental V, which was produced in Rotterdam, The Netherlands in April 1986. Edited by Lydia Schouten, Leonie Bodeving, and Rob Perree, the chapter featured work by forty artists from twelve countries.
