An online concert by Les Angles Mortes and Amahl Arulanandam as part of Suoni TV’s digital presentation series. The concert included performances of major works by African-American composers to honor the African diaspora’s contribution to European art music. The ensemble Les Angles Morts, directed by Julie Richard, presented Julia Perry’s “Stabat Mater” (1947), and Amahl Arulanandam played all ten cello parts of Julius Eastman’s “The Holy Presence of Joan D’Arc” (1981).
The concert was accompanied by recorded artist talks hosted by musicians Vanessa Richards and Obediya Jones-Darrell.
Presented as part of the series Trading Places: Un Échange, a partnership with Coastal Jazz & Blues Society, Music on Main, New Orchestra Workshop (NOW) Society, and Suoni per il Popolo, and with Music Gallery and Innovations en concert.
