Meredith Bates in Residence

Sep 1, 2019 — Mar 31, 2020

In September 2019, violinist and composer Meredith Bates began a six-month residency to compose new work in Western Front’s Grand Luxe Hall. Originally conceived as a duo with the Seattle-based pianist Wayne Horvitz, Bates worked to reimagine the piece due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. What emerged was a composition titled Sound Migrations, which was produced in collaboration with artist Josema Zamorano and vocalist Lief Hall, and performed over two nights in the Grand Luxe Hall.

Presented with support from the Government of Canada and SOCAN Foundation.
