In September 2019, violinist and composer Meredith Bates began a six-month residency to compose new work in Western Front’s Grand Luxe Hall. Originally conceived as a duo with the Seattle-based pianist Wayne Horvitz, Bates worked to reimagine the piece due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. What emerged was a composition titled Sound Migrations, which was produced in collaboration with artist Josema Zamorano and vocalist Lief Hall, and performed over two nights in the Grand Luxe Hall.
