Javanese Gamelan Workshops with Sutrisno Hartana

Jan 27 — Mar 25, 2019

Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Facilitated by Sutrisno Hartana, this weekly hands-on introduction to gamelan explored the instruments of Alligator Joy—a bronze gamelan from Central Java, Indonesia. The ten sessions focused on developing layered rhythmic patterns, and learning about improvisation and performance rules to create ensemble-based music.

Presented with the support of the Government of Canada and SOCAN Foundation.
