Description:
Musicians Luke Fowler, Sarah Davachi, and Joshua Stevenson performed a trio of pieces that featured the “black box”—a hand-made modular synthesizer built from circuits designed by composer and musician Martin Bartlett with Bill Hern. A founding member of Western Front, Bartlett’s interest in music as a social and performance tradition informed his development of live electronics.
Resurrecting Bartlett’s original black box, the evening of electronics featured performances of original work by Bartlett, including a series of finger exercises he designed for the EMS VCS 3 analogue synthesizer.
The concert took place while Fowler was in residence at Western Front researching the life and work of Bartlett.
