Description:
The Empty Vessel Makes the Loudest Sound was a monthly workshop series led by rotating facilitators that engaged participants in listening and sound making exercises inspired by Deep Listening. Originated by Pauline Oliveros, Deep Listening is a form of mediation that is based on experiencing heightened awareness of sound, silence, and sounding. Deep Listening is a philosophy and practice that distinguishes the difference between the involuntary nature of hearing and the voluntary selective nature of listening. The result of the practice cultivates an appreciation of sounds on a heightened level—expanding the potential for connection and interaction between one’s environment, technology, and performance with others in music and related arts.
