Description:

Sonic Playground: Painted Sounds was a workshop facilitated by Giorgio Magnanensi that focused on the use of graphic notation, where signs and symbols are used to represent sounds.

Participants did not need any prior knowledge, and instead were encouraged to create large-scale abstract drawings that formed the basis for graphic scores that were then interpreted and performed by the group. At the end of the workshop, participants performed the pieces they created using their own instruments/voices.

Presented in partnership with Vancouver New Music.

Western Front is a non-profit artist-run centre in Vancouver.
