Description:

Tribute to Chickens was a reading by Carole Itter that unfolded across two parts in the Grand Luxe Hall. Wearing a homemade chicken costume, Itter began the performance by emulating various avian movements—pecking, feather ruffling, and claw-scratching—before reading a collection of texts written from the perspective of a chicken. While Itter recited her “chicken stories,” a number of concurrent activities transpired: scrambled eggs were cooked and served, raw eggs were tossed back and forth, an artist slid across the floor while wearing Itter’s Raw Egg costume, and the audience—which included many children—interacted with props that included an oversized soft chicken sculpture, and a number of Itter’s Chicken Box assemblages.

For the second part of the performance, Itter—no longer in the chicken costume—sat at a desk and read a text about her experience as a new mother.
