Walking Woman

Mar 19 — 20, 2004
Field:

Screening, Media Artwork

Location:

Western Front

Description:

Western Front presented two evenings of screenings featuring video documentation from Walking Woman, an all-day community participation performance led by Margaret Dragu. Beginning and ending on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery and traversing as far as Richmond, participants put on their walking shoes and danced, walked, and celebrated the pedestrian and bus lifestyle while engaging in performance actions. Inspired by a series of works by Michael Snow that bear the same name, Walking Woman encourages viewers to ask questions about the nature and limits of public art, spectacle, performance, community, and inclusion.
