Description:
Field Work incorporated a number of Germain Koh’s interactive works and urban interventions, using the field as a common formal trope. This exhibition was partially produced during a residency at Western Front.
The gallery installation included a new version of Koh’s White Noise (originally presented at Gasworks, London), Survey Field (an interactive website produced with artengine, Ottawa), and Counter (2002). These works linked data collection and analysis with colour field painting and representations of nothing.
The exhibition also included public works Surrender, a white flag mounted on the exterior of Western Front; and Spot Radio, a series of roaming low-watt FM radio broadcasts conducted by Koh and local artists Kate Barry, Clint Burnham, and Igor Sanitizo in various Vancouver neighbourhoods.
An exhibition opening took place May 30, 2003.
