Temps Mort was a solo exhibition of Arthur Kleinjan that presented a projected videowork, LOOK_WALK, and projected photos from the Paris Looks series. Kleinjan's work frequently deals with the body in relation to space, time, gesture, and language.
In his Paris Looks (1999) series, Kleinjan took photographs of tourists as they posed in front of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. Far from the conventional holiday snapshot, Kleinjan's photographs were taken from behind and without the subject's knowledge while they posed for their own photo. The sheer number of images surveyed the conventions and performativity of the tourist photo.
LOOP_WALK (1999) shared a minimalist examination of the body in space. The camera captured a crowded courtyard where pedestrians moved uniformly in one direction. Among them, a woman stood out by moving at a much slower pace while maintaining the same trajectory as the crowd. When she reached the frame's upper edge, the scene dissolves and repeats, showing her journey from bottom to top once more. The title is derived from a pun: the Dutch word for walk is loop.
An opening took place on Oct 18, 2002.
