The Fragility of Origins was an exhibition by Cornelia Wyngaarden that focused on the imagined discomfort of the lesbian body within art history and theoretical discourses.
Combining multichannel video, photography, and text in an installation, the work drew on Baroque painting and Freudian psychoanalysis to question subjectivity and authorship, examining the uncertainties of postmodernism at a time when many historically marginalized “subjects” were emerging as “authors” of their own narratives.
A reception and catalogue launch took place on November 29, 1994.
