Facilitated by Kye Goodwin, Robert Richardson, and Cornelia Wyngaarden, Pixeltools was a workshop series for artists interested in exploring computer graphics. Held in the Grand Luxe Hall, the spring session combined surveys of essential areas of computer graphics with hands-on workshops.
Program:
May 4 – 6, 1987
Image Processing Techniques
7:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Led by Robert Richardson, this course introduced basic image processing techniques in contrast enhancement, image classification, storage compression, and digital filtering.
May 25 – 27, 1987
Fundamentals of Low Budget Video Effects
7:00 – 10:00 p.m
Led by Cornelia Wyngaarden, this course covered the effects one might commonly find at a video post-production facility, including computer paint systems, compositing processes, chroma and luminance keying, and machines that change the geometry of the video image.
Jun 1 – 4, 1987
Survey of 3D Computer Graphics
7:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Led by Robert Richardson, this course introduced the concepts and challenges of making 3D computer generated imagery, including: creating shapes with geometric primitives, motion path design, 2D rendering, and designing animation systems and procedural models.
Outside of workshop hours, participants were also welcome to book time to experiment with the Cubicomp system, with hands-on support from Robert Richardson and Kye Goodwin.
