A talk with Idealverein creator Mike Bourscheid and performers Kate Franklin, Germaine Koh, Erika Mitsuhashi, and Ed Spence, moderated by Western Front media arts curator, Alison Collins. Prompted by questions from Collins and the audience, the speakers discussed the staging of Idealverein at the 57th Venice Biennale, improvisation, and the specificity of the work’s costumes and props—which were on display in the Grand Luxe Hall during the talk. Bourscheid also shared excerpts from the Idealverein score, demystifying the game’s seemingly nonsensical rulebook.
