Radio III / ᎦᏬᏂᏍᎩ ᏦᎢ

Description:

A performance at Left of Main of Radio III / ᎦᏬᏂᏍᎩ ᏦᎢ (2019), the collaborative project by artists Elisa Harkins, Hanako Hoshimi-Caines, and Zoë Poluch. Moving through choreographed dance routines to live vocals by Harkins in English, Cherokee, and Muscogee (Creek), Radio III / ᎦᏬᏂᏍᎩ ᏦᎢ combined disco melodies and Indigenous languages in an effort to activate and preserve them. At once an Indigenous futuristic concert, a dance performance, and a perverse triangle of shifting power, the project aimed to challenge minimalism and postmodern dance’s claims to so-called “neutrality.”  

Presented in partnership with plastic orchid factory, with support from Canada Council for the Arts, Swedish Arts Council, Swedish Arts Grants Committee, Dance Victoria, and Agora de la danse.
