Radio III / ᎦᏬᏂᏍᎩ ᏦᎢ was a collaborative project by artists Elisa Harkins, Hanako Hoshimi-Caines, and Zoë Poluch. Moving through choreographed dance routines to live vocals by Harkins in English, Cherokee, and Muscogee (Creek), Radio III / ᎦᏬᏂᏍᎩ ᏦᎢ combined disco melodies and Indigenous languages in an effort to activate and preserve them. At once an Indigenous futuristic concert, a dance performance, and a perverse triangle of shifting power, the project aimed to challenge minimalism and postmodern dance’s claims to so-called “neutrality.”
A vinyl record and accompanying lyric zine was produced alongside the performance.
Presented in partnership with Plastic Orchid Factory; with support from Canada Council for the Arts, Swedish Arts Council, Swedish Arts Grants Committee, Tulsa Artist Fellowship, Agora de la danse, The Stable, and Dance Victoria.
