Description:

While in residence at Western Front, composer, performer, and researcher Sarah Davachi performed In The Grand Luxe Hall—a composition for amplified cello and sine tones that was commissioned by Western Front in 2016. Faintly lit in an otherwise dark space, Davachi accompanied cellist Marina Hasselberg on electronics as they re-performed the piece within the space for which it was originally intended.

Following this, Davachi performed an extended solo set of her recent electroacoustic works.

Marina Hasselberg and Sarah Davachi perform in the Grand Luxe Hall. The pair are lit by two spotlights in an otherwise dark room in front of black curtain used as a backdrop. To the left, Hasselberg uses a bow to play the cello. To the right, Davachi adjusts a variety of electroacoustic instruments placed on two tables behind which she sits.
