Description:
While in residence at Western Front, Will Holder hosted a series of events related to the work of contemporary American composer Robert Ashley that were presented as part of the first iteration of Scrivener’s Monthly.
To conclude the series, Holder recited “Yes, But Is It Edible?” (1996), a thirty-minute work of operatic storytelling by Ashely, with organ accompaniment by Western Front technical manager Ben Wilson. The performance was followed by playback of Ashley’s five-minute composition “Pillars” (2007).
Scrivener’s Monthly was a series of public presentations that explored the space between material practices and spoken words. Set alongside exhibitions at Western Front, this experiment in “not publishing” involved readings, performances, and other articulations.
Presented in partnership with Fillip.
