Description:
Instrumental Transcommunication: Listening Through Your Electronics (Hearing the Dead) was the title of Darsha Hewitt’s artist talk presented while in residence at Western Front.
Hewitt looked at the world of metascience and investigations into the spirit world via electronic intervention—particularly through the concept of instrumental transcommunication—and offered how one may experience encounters with the paranormal realm through domestic electronics.
She revisited inventions such as Dr. George J. Mueller’s “spiricom,” created during the mid-twentieth century to communicate with the dead and popular accounts in magazines where amateurs recounted paranormal experiences endured while interacting with electronics.
The talk ended with a demonstration of sensitive daemon detection devices created by the artist.
