Description:
Margaret Fisher performed parts of her dance suite Splitting. The work is composed of a series of improvised gestural sequences that point to the development of language. In Splitting, Fisher demonstrates her “cellular movement” technique, which refers to the possibility of direct articulated communication between the tiniest divisions of the body through intense concentration. The work makes use of props including raw chickens and a harmonica, and incorporates field recordings of Australian crickets.
Following her performance, Fisher screened several audio and videotapes, including work by California dancer Judith Azur, and documentation of a slow-scan experiment between dancers in New York and San Francisco.
Western Front is a non-profit artist-run centre in Vancouver.
