Description:
As a part of the That ’70s Ho: A Celebration of Women and Performance Circa 1970 performance series, Annie Sprinkle hosted what was billed as an “Intimate Show and Tell Evening.”
As a former sex worker and porn star turned sex activist and performance artist, Sprinkle delved into her thirty-year archive, screening both pornographic and performance works with honest and lighthearted commentary of her personal transformation into the performative persona of Annie Sprinkle.
Sprinkle recounted the devastation of AIDs which prompted another spiritual transformation and was the beginning of her artistic turn studying under Linda Montano and finding empowerment through the erotic and tantric.
In recognizing the lack of recognition and celebration of sexual service, including her own, and to reclaim the perception of being a whore, she created The Annie Sprinkle Aphrodite Award, and gave hugs and certificates to willing audience members who self-identified.
Sprinkle performed her “Bosom Ballet,” revealing her breasts and choreographing them to “The Blue Danube” waltz. The evening closed with a post-show question and answer session, moderated by curator Victoria Singh.
