Description:
As a part of the That ’70s Ho: A Celebration of Women and Performance Circa 1970 performance series, Katheryn Petersen and Maya Suess paid tribute to Yoko Ono’s performance works.
Katheryn Petersen recreated Ceiling Painting/Yes Painting (1966).
Maya Suess recreated Cut Piece (1964). In order to move away from the extensive critique and projected meaning that surrounded Ono's original work where audience members were given scissors to cut away the clothes Ono wore, Suess approached it with an absurd and fantastical sensibility, singing opera and donning a theatrical costume rather than clothing for the audience to cut away.
Western Front is a non-profit artist-run centre in Vancouver.
