Performance

Location:

Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

Time:

8:00 p.m.

Description:

Featuring Barry Truax, Marc Bjorknas, Katharine Norman, Aleksandar Zecevic, Ben Wilson, and Jean Routhier, this concert focused on the use of Western Front’s octophonic sound system to create spatialized listening experiences.

Barry Truax’s imaginary island in “Island” was imbued with magic realism and natural sounds in a soundscape composition. Marc Bjorknas travelled to a very different island with “Jamaican Sound System,” and Katharine Norman took a trip to the dentist in “Something Quite Atrocious.” Aleksandar Zecevic presented a new work utilizing traditional Balkan and contemporary Asian music. Also featured was the sound avalanche, “Sediment” by Ben Wilson, a sampling of wall-to-wall carpet chamber music by Jean Routhier, and Western Front archival documents.

Presented as part of the see • sound  e • scape new music series.
