While in residence, Archie Barry researched and created a new video work, Dream for Reed (2025), exploring the inner life of pioneering trans philanthropist Reed Erickson through his writings, self-portraits, and poetry preserved in the Transgender Archives at the University of Victoria. The work was shown alongside two other videos that premiered in Barry’s solo exhibition Try Keeping an Open Channel.
During the opening week of the exhibition, Barry performed Wall Drawing in the gallery, and presented an artist talk at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
Barry’s residency was presented with support from Creative Australia, the Jim Marks and Norman Macgeorge Travelling Scholarships (University of Melbourne), the Audain Foundation, and the Transgender Archives at the University of Victoria.
