Pianist Lubomyr Melnyk led a weekly workshop for fifteen participants on piano technique and composition in the “continuous mode.” This technique involves the generation of separate and incongruent note patterns in each hand, a method which increases the suppleness and fluidity within a player’s hand and the body in general. The workshop included instruction on reading the music and physical exercises for playing it.
Participants were encouraged to bring their own scores for comment, and had the opportunity to perform in the Grand Luxe Hall with Melnyk in February 1989 to premiere his new composition.
Presented with support from George Melnyk, and the Government of British Columbia through the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Recreation and Culture.
