Description:
Kō Nakajima’s Biological Cycle (1971–85) series explored non-destructive technology and the generative, ecological potential of the video medium. While in residence at Western Front, he produced a chapter titled Biological Cycle Part 5.
Originally shot on high-contrast black-and-white film and then altered through animation techniques, the eight-minute single-channel video transforms a series of images into abstract neon glitches. A man on a stationary bike, a robot, and an ostrich oscillate and fuse, representing the continuum of nature and technology.
Video documentation available upon request.
Western Front is a non-profit artist-run centre in Vancouver.
