Description:
Invisible Crowds was a video installation by Hayley Newman documenting a gathering on a public bus in Vancouver. The group of fifty volunteers were assembled via an open call. By positioning the crowd as the subject of the work, Newman was interested in shifting focus away from the singular performer, extending authorship toward the viewer and collective presence. The project also explored how a staged event can unfold within an unpredictable, uncontrolled environment.
Presented with support by the British Council.
Western Front is a non-profit artist-run centre in Vancouver.
