Description:
In this one-woman performance, Rose English deconstructs traditional assumptions towards women on stage, exploring themes of the void, the artist’s repertoire, weakness, and pleasure. Breaking the fourth wall, she narrates her actions in a humorous reflection on the process of theatre-making. Structured in two acts, English’s meta-narrative is supported by numerous costumes, which are arranged in a heap on the stage. During one part of the performance, English dons mouse ears, a horse tail, and hoofs and prances around to music from Carmen.
Plato's Chair was developed while English was an artist-in-residence at Western Front from Nov 11 to 24.
