Chris Creighton-Kelly’s performance I.D. was an explication of identity on the cup of the post-colonial age. The work formed the first part of a trilogy of performances.
The set comprised sheer white draped fabric and a candlelit aisle, establishing an altar-like performance space suggestive of ritual and inquiry. The performance unfolded through a series of auto-theoretical anecdotes addressing race, desire, friendships, and identity. The texts were performed by Creighten-Kelly and collaborators, all of which were dressed in white.
Musicians playing sitar, accordion, bass guitar, and harmonica were seated within a two-level quadrant structure. The set also incorporated video monitors and large-scale projections, layering mediated imagery onto live performance.
The performers in I.D. included Amir Ali Alibhai, Michael Creighton-Kelly, Monte, Sonia Norris, Jade Pape, Carmen Rodriguez, Norbert Ruebsaat, Teri Snelgrove, Wendy Solloway, and Jill Swartz.
