This was the second concert of Piano Explorations, a program devoted to investigating the use of the piano with computer and human interfaces and other innovations that have extended the piano’s vocabulary.
There were two sets with an intermission. The music spanned a century of approaches from jazz and classical genres and beyond, including Henry Cowell’s early compositions with tone clusters, a composition by Robert Pritchard, and a theatrical and sexually charged work by Rodney Sharman.
In the first set, Chris Gestrin, Rachel Iwaasa, and Marguerite Witvoet performed respectively. In the second set, Marilyn Lerner and Ken Gregory performed material and techniques developed from their residency at Western Front.
