David Tomas

Bio:

David Tomas was an artist, anthropologist, and writer born in Montréal, Canada whose multimedia and photographic works explored the cultures and transcultures of imaging systems. From the late 1970s, Tomas’s practice examined how different forms of knowledge emerge from intersecting histories of contemporary art, anthropology, and media. Both in his visual art and texts, Tomas approached art as a conceptual tool in dialogue and tension with other academic disciplines. Over his career, Tomas also produced theoretical texts and books on the university, intercultural contact spaces, photography, new technologies, and media arts.
