Description:
Instant Places gave an artist talk and demonstration in the Grand Luxe Hall of how they produce the audio/video environments in their work, and the improvised noise opera they produced while in residence at Western Front, entitled Operator.
Their practice is site-specific, with audio samples and digital images gathered in the vicinity of the respective exhibition venues. Using this material, an environment for surround sound and projected video is created during daily sessions.
Each project ends with a performance event in the created environment. The form of the final performance is influenced by the material gathered, the exhibition space, generative processes built into the audio and video programs, and gestural responses from the two performers.
Video documentation available upon request.
