Concert by Joan La Barbara

Description:

In this concert, Joan La Barbara exhibited her experimental and extended vocal techniques as she performed six of her original compositions for voice alone and with tape. The concert began with her work Space Testing, in which La Barbara explored the acoustical properties of the room using her voice. This led directly into Shadow Song, with a live overlay. Circular Song, Klee Alee, Les Oiseaux and Erin round out the performance in which La Barbara demonstrated various techniques including multiphonics, ululation, inhaled singing and glottal clicks.
