Description:
60 Unit; Bruise is a five-minute video made by Paul Wong and Kenneth Fletcher. Produced as part of their larger biographical series, The Mainstreet Tapes (1976–79), this was Wong’s first colour video. It was recorded at Western Front and filmed with the assistance of Canada Council for the Arts’ colour camera.
Part body art performance and part colour study, the video captures Fletcher withdrawing sixty units of blood for his own arm, then carefully injecting it via syringe into Wong’s upper back. The camera zooms in on Wong’s back, observing as his skin reacts, turning red and purple.
Video documentation is available upon request.
