Description:

Western Front presented two performances at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts as part of VOICE OVER mind Festival—a program that explored experimental and unconventional vocal techniques. The evening featured a solo improvisation by Lief Ambrosia Hall that re-imagined and montaged an array of vocal styles to create narrative forms through sound. Idiolalla, the duo of DB Boyko and Christine Duncan, debuted Christopher Butterfield’s composition Stall (2010). Performed in the Chan Centre’s powder room, the piece offered a treatise on the ubiquitous public washroom. Boyko and Duncan were seated at tables and surrounded by audience members while they performed Butterfield’s twenty-minute score. The concert also featured a performance of minimalist rounds and sonic poetry by Voxy Choir and the Roundhouse Seniors’ Choir, conducted by Boyko and Duncan.

Presented in partnership with the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.
